Vlare goes ka-boom

around May of 2020

The video sharing platform Vlare got shut down for failing to respond to a DMCA claim. When the "community" realized that the website had gone down, everyone thought it was yet another maintenance (the platform was well known for its infamous 522 errors).

Then we got the memo. A developper or moderator (at least I think it was someone with at least one of these roles) published a video on Vidlii, an other video sharing platform who's basically Vlare's neighbor, explaining the situation. What a shitshow.

Now Vlare gone, who will claim its throne? A couple of other sites are making themselves known like Tracle , AnimasterTube and a few others (who since got shut down and I can't remember their names).

Middle of 2020

Vlare isn't dead though! WYSIWYG, the most active developper, took the reins of the project and is now planning to remake the website from scratch. A new start is probably what the site needs since one can hope that the shitposters will get bored and move on before the website is released once more. (Really, 5 seconds videos were really starting to become the norm before the website got shut down.)

Since Vlare isn't coming back to life anytime soon, I'll probably post the video here. I'm pretty happy with it, although I believe it got waay to much attention than it truly deserved. It's maybe because people were tired of seeing memes that I received so much support. Either way, I'm grateful for what happend during the short time the servers were still up. When Vlare 2.0 is out I think I'll create a new channel there to and repost a couple of my old videos (if the team doesn't have plans to reupload the backups they made). When it comes to actual "content" though, I don't think anything will come from me in a long time. I'm working on a new animation, but only when I've got the time and the motivation, which is pretty rare these days.

16 May, 2021

Hola, Update. Kay (formerly WYSIWYG) announced around the end of 2020 that she was putting the project to rest indefinitely. Fortunately, A couple of months passed and it seems that the site is being worked on once again by a new team, who got the rights of Vlare from her. The site follows some bumpy paths but I'm starting to hope that we might be getting somewhere.

Of course, this website is really small and I don't think it has any chances of growing it's userbase a whole lot, espacially now that some other websites seem to be attracting more people that they used to (Odysee/Lbry). But this is only my impression, who's most likely not the most up to date one. What Vlare does have, is a pretty strong and active group of members. Even if the only official place to gather is among one of the chats in the official Discord server, Vlare does seem to have a pretty active following. Will it last until Vlare finally releases?

25 July, 2021

Sadly, the current team decided to halt the Vlare project. That's a though one since it basically came out of nowhere, but I would personnally say it's understandable, given the scale of the project. Anyway, This is how the journey of Vlare probably comes to a close. I doubt that there is any other team crazy enough to pick up a project that was abandonned by 3 other. If no further notice, this is how the story ends.

Goodbye, Vlare.

2022

And now Vanillo.tv, an older platform whose staff has some of the ex-Vlare devs, is in the process of being revived. It never stops...

2 march 2023

Vanillo is out. Let's just hope it doesn't crash and burn like all previous attempts...

~2024

Well. While Vanillo is not dead per se, the content one can find there is mostly screen recordings of games, animations made by infants and text-to-speech reviews of whatever. I've only found one or two videos that were worth watching. The users are more active on the site's Discord than on the actual thing. I cannot be bothered to go there anymore, so it's dead in my book.

Bye.
