Sugar

At first I'd created this document to tell everyone how bad sugar is, and that everyone should stop eating sugary foodstuff and if you don't, you're a big dummy and blah, blah, blah. Putting myself on a pedestal and all that jazz. I even had a paragraph where I listed what I ate on breakfasts, which I then redacted because I wasn't following my own principles. So I'll simply write this document again, in a more honest(?) and direct way.

Everyone knows that sugar is bad. Without the help of Science, we had thousands of years to figure it out, big deal. Technically, everything's bad for you if you happen to eat a truckload of it, but that's basically what's happening with sugar.

As I previously wrote, I did (and still somewhat do) try to limit my consumption and it proved to be extremely difficult. The temptations are all here: Ice creams, cokes, yogurts, the all-mighty chocolate... My taste buds are irremediably stuck in my childhood days.

One thing that saves me is that I don't know how to cook. While it may be the last nail in the coffin to some, I happen to eat healthier food because, with absolutely no idea of how to use a kitchen and not having a habit of buying readymade food, some of my meals boil down (sometimes literally) to cooked vegetables, rice, half-assed polenta, cooked pears (yes), scrambled eggs, nuts and the like. I don't know anything about toppings, so I often don't add any. But I think my cooking's slowly improving, so it's not as sad as it may seem.

Of course there's a lot of exceptions to this list. And one of those is the fact that I haven't given up on chocolate. Being the proud owner of a .ch top level domain, I will still happily eat black chocolate. Why black? Because if I eat brown chocolate, I'll end up eating way more than intended. I have weak self-control. But I'm not alone, and food companies know this oh so well. Entire empires have been built on sugar, and from the most innocent biscuit to the latest diabetes medication, these empires' fuel is and has always been sugar.

Technically, this is all within our moral's reach. We can stop, put down the coke in our hands, and never touch one again. But then why do so little people go through this? I'm asking this to myself first, too. While I may not have the worst diet out there, I still am "wrongfully" indulging in some desires. But I believe I'm on the right track, although I'm taking my sweet time (pun not intended).

Well. Replacing a subpar article with rambling: has anything really been gained? I'm not so sure now.
