The TF2 Youtube community, or how to milk a dead cow

Ladies and gentlemen, this is it. We have hit rock bottom.
Have you ever typed "TF2" in the search bar recently? Then you probably stumbled upon results like these:

The TF2 Community is Insane...

Yes, every single one of them competes to be the most atrocious, air wasting, boring video available. This is why I use an Adblock. Actually, I don't even watch videos on Youtube directly to avoid accidentally increasing the view count if I were to be tricked by the thumbnail as these videos belong, for most of them, to the trash.

It wasn't all that good before. A lot of videos then were already pretty stale. But now, we're not even scraping the bottom of the barrel, nooo, we went past the wood and made a hole in the ground.

A diagram of TF2 youtubers' video ideas.

Some of those videos are unedited playsessions lasting twenty minutes. (If you are even remotely interested by this kind of content, then I'm sorry that you can't get as much fun by playing the game itself.) Others are random bits of gameplay with the addition of sound effect for comedic purposes. Others are simply images from subreddits and Steam community pages. Others are "wholesome" Youtubers reacting to Le Funny Heavy fighting with Le Funny mittens. Huh? Oh yeah, that would be the 500th video about this.

"His videos are drier that sand" —anon talking about Soundsmith

How these videos still rack up hundreds of thousands of views is beyond me. Why do you care about the tier lists Zesty Jesus makes during his hours long streams? Why do you care about SolarLight's opinions and made-up dramas? Why do you care about "The absolute state of TF2 in 202X"? Why do you care about trans rights in TF2? Can't you think of anything else to fill up your days?

I cared about these things, too. And thinking about the hours I spent watching the content of these toilet plungers saddens me. Binge watching their content will get you nowhere, just like watching Twitter feeds.

"TF2 is so rich, there's always new things to talk about!"

Technically, yes. But just like there's a ton of possibilities to order the letters of the alphabet differently, at some point, it's not going to be worth your or your viewers' time anymore.
