MGA dictionary
Far from complete.
Some terms are not specific to MGA but are written here because
they are extensively used in this gamemode.
- Bhop, bunnyhop
- To jump at the exact same time when one is touching the ground. Oft-used as this technique makes one keep their crit, allowing them to kill even after touching the ground.
- Dashing
- Very similar to low jumps, to jump horizontally from
a wall to quickly reposition oneself and avoid incoming attackers.
Some (EMGL) divide this category in two and differentiate the dash performed by only jumping and the long dash, performed by crouch-jumping. - Dean
- To shoot a rocket just before one's feet to counter an enemy
attacking at a low angle, sending one airborne and the other stuck
in the air. One can then kill the attacker who probably missed his
hit due to the speed decrease.
Note: it is harder to do a dean on high-ping players as their player model is essentially an after-image of their real position.
other names: dean jumping, dean counter - Funny (to do a funny)
- To use the ennemy's own rocket to market garden him. Humiliation
kill.
source: EUMGL discord - Generation (Gen)
- The system used to specify when a player started playing MGA. A generation
is roughly 6 months long, and the gradation starts in 2016.
See this file for a precise list of generations. - Jarjar
- While being airborne, to pretend to jump away from the incoming attacker only to reduce one's speed with a negative strafe and hitting him sooner than what he expected.
- Joust (to joust)
- When both enemies attack in a straight line, hoping to be the one to hit first.
- Low jump
- From the ground, to use a wall to propel oneself with close to
no vertical velocity.
source: EUMGL discord - Meme (to meme)
- To jump right below and hit a falling enemy. Doing so makes it more difficult for the opponent to hit first, as the shovel range is smaller for him. Additionally, he may land on the attacker's head, losing his ability to crit altogether.
- Pencil jumping
- To jump almost or completely vertically. Very easy to counter, it is usually done by inexperienced players.
- Prefire
- Before hitting the ground, to fire a rocket in advance so that one can pull out his melee weapon faster, thus being guaranteed to have the swing advantage and hit first any incoming opponent.
- Ramming (to ram)
- To bounce the enemy off of a platform then quickly propel oneself
towards him to finish him off.
source: Moose's MGA for dummies vol.1 - Rebounce
- After jumping away from an enemy, the action of doing a sync to quickly rejoin the fight at a high velocity.
- Routine Andy
- The name given to players who constantly roam the map, not engaging in any fight, and kill players who are already fighting someone else. In other words, dickheads.
- Soup (to soup)
- To kill an enemy just as he comes out of the respawn gates and hasn't touched the ground yet. Equivalent to spawncamping.
- Spawn boost
- To enter and shoot a rocket in the arena's respawn gates, which
catapult players who touch them, to propel oneself at a very high velocity.
other names: portal boost - Sposeidon bhop, spose bhop
- To jump and fire a rocket on the wall above oneself to not only deny the incoming attacker with splash damage, but also to gain a crit and chain it with a bhop to then near-instantly strike him once he hits the ground. (As the name suggests, often used by Sposeidon.)
- Swing advantage
- The name given to the situation where the player who pulled out his shovel first or who has the highest velocity is the most likely to hit first.
- Wall lunge
- While airborne and against a wall, to use it to propel oneself
horizontally at the opponent.
source: EUMGL discord - Wallbait (to wallbait)
- To pretend to be jumping away from or above the opponent then using a nearby wall to propel oneself towards him at a higher velocity than he anticipated.
- Wallbug
- To stick oneself onto non axis-aligned walls in order to stop falling. This is a trick possible to do in the Source engine and is oft-used as it can catch enemies off-guard and preserves one's crit.
